Just Step Out of the Boat
Matthew 14:22-32
“If you’ve never failed, you’ve never lived.” But maybe we need to take it one step back from there, “if you’ve never risked, you’ve never lived.” Because so often it’s when we risk in life, that we have the biggest chance of failing.
Sometimes life requires us to risk, to risk failure.
Life often asks us to get out of the boat and walk on water.
If you step out of the boat…
…you will face storms
I don’t think Paul, in Ephesians 6, would have instructed us to put on the full armour of God if all we were going to do is walk around in “green pastures.”
…you must discern between faith and foolishness
We will have to discern between an authentic call from God and what might simply be a foolish impulse on our part.
…you will have to face your fears in order to grow
…you must change your view of failure
Failure doesn’t shape you; the way you respond to failure shapes you.
Jesus is inviting you to go the adventure of your life. But at the same time, you’re scared to death. What would you choose – the water or the boat?
Sure we can stay in the boat, but what kind of life is that?
Are we truly disciples if we stay in the boat?
